Blood Brawl Blogs: Divinity vs Maruki (5YL vs Persona 5 Royal)

Blood Brawl Blogs - Divinity vs Maruki

(5YL vs Persona 5 Royal)

"Free will is an illusion. Our wills are simply not of our own making. Thoughts and intentions emerge from background causes of which we are unaware and over which we exert no conscious control. We do not have the freedom we think we have"

- Sam Harris

Divinity, the Ultimate Chronian of 5YL

Maruki, the Dreamer of Persona 5 Royal

What do you think happens when a man becomes so insane that he decides to become a god?The answer, the complete annihilation and destruction of free will. And in this instance, the complete annihilation and destruction of all reality.

Before We Start

These two characters are needlessly complicated to scale, so what we will be doing is using the main sources such as 5YL and Persona 5 Royal, secondary sources like Ben 10, Danny Phantom and SMT, and tertiary sources such as the Ben 10 comics, Generator Rex, Invader Zim and writer statements of those various series in that order, if something from the secondary and tertiary sources contradict the main sources, it will be ignored. Also to make things fair for Maruki, we will be fusing Mementos with the real world so he has full control over his abilities.

 And finally,

NO DC OR DRAGON BALL SCALING FOR 5YL, JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE REFERENCES DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY SHARE A COSMOLOGY.

With the rules established, let's see which of our characters here will win,

IN A

BLOOD BRAWL

 Backgrounds

Eon

Divinity

"Eon was a designation by my people who branded me as their conduit for new life. That name is outdated. I am so much more, now. I can feel the vibrations of the multiverse at my fingertips. I can see beyond space and time. I've looked upon the face of god and saw myself in his throne. Now, his throne is but a stepping stone for what I've become.
I am... DIVINITY."

Divinity was Chronian raised on the planet Concordia, which was a species of reality warpers who could break with space and time through their intelligence alone, however this power caused them to nearly destroy their species and universe. With Divinity(currently called Eon at this time) being chosen to lead his people to a new universe where they can bring their teachings to other dimensions, and lead new societies to greatness. However, through the span of 4,000 years, Eon would lose sight of his original goal, eventually having his life purpose proving one man wrong, the hero of hero's, Ben 10.

This would cause him to enlist the help of Doctor James Animo, Technus of the Ghost Zone,  Invader Zim, Zim's robot henchman Gir, and most importantly Vlad Masters, through this alliance, he was able to evolve himself into the Ultimate Chronian, Divinity.

Takuto Maruki

"My "cognitive psience" is the study of people's hearts, and how they guide people's views of the world. Everyone comprehends the world in a different way, depending on their cognition...So basically, if one could tap into a person's "cognitive world"...One would even be able to alter how that person alters reality—in every way."

Takuto Maruki was a normal human man, albeit researching an abnormal science, that being the cognitive psience which was going nowhere, that changed however when his finance's (Rumi) parents murdered during a home invasion, and she was injured in the process leading to her falling into a catatonic depression. Trying to purge her memories of her parents death, Maruki would accidentally manifest his Persona, erasing Rumi's memories of her parents, but also her memories of Maruki, this made it so that Maruki would further his research, but it would also make it so that he would cut ties with Rumi. His research would eventually be rejected by his university and stolen by Masayoshi Shido, dejected he left, becoming a guidance counselor.

Through this job, he eventually met Sumire Yoshizawa, who Maruki was able to change her cognition into believing that she was her deceased sister Kasumi Yoshizawa, and Ren Amamiya, who was the one to help him figure out how to complete his research, and the one to accidentally help him fully awaken his Persona, Azathoth, with his power he was able to craft a new reality, where everyone's cognition is trapped in delusions of happiness.

Abilities

Divinity

Reality Warping

The main power, but not really, you see Divinity can't manipulate space and time because of a power he has, he is just so intelligent that his thoughts alone can manipulate reality.

It's basically Telekinesis, but if you can travel through realities like Portaler you could escape his grip.

 Portal Creation

He can make Portals to anywhere in the Omniverse

Teleportation

He can also teleport, pretty self explanatory

Mental Manipulation

He can bring you inside your own mind to have a chat with you, or to incapacitate you for a free kill (R.I.P Alien X)

 Lasers

He can make lasers, it can be big laser or small laser

 Size Manipulation

He can grow so large that he could eclipse Waybig in Size

Regeneration

He can regenerate any part of his body that has been chopped off or broken

 Meta Manipulation

He can manipulate the medium of where he currently his, like when he could split Ben into drawing layers, or when he able to control the Premier Pro timeline

(Kuro use Davinchi, not the software that requires you to pay to cancel)

 Perception Beyond Time

He can look through the infinite timelines to see who people really are, or how they got their powers

 Absorption and Redirection

He can absorb anything and make it even more powerful when redirecting it, including Ecto-Engery

 Type 8 Immortality

His most useful ability in this fight, he can stay alive as long as the Temporal Zone  isn't destroyed, this Immortality is so strong that nothing can permanently kill him, including existence erasure by a Celestial-Sapien actively trying to kill him

 Maruki

So the way Maruki can warp reality is very odd, it's called "Actualization", and it works by changing the masses cognition, in Persona, cognition is basically what governs reality, so changing that would alter reality

Reality Warping Nullification
Has access to multiple almighty skills, which have the power to nullify reality warping items like the omnipotent orb

Regeneration
Has regeneration so powerful that he can grow back missing limbs (or tentacles).

Existence Erasure
Just like his reality warping, this ability is tied to his Actualization, which allows him to delete you from cognition, and if you disappeared from cognition, you no longer exist

Clairvoyance
Through his tentacles, he can observe others Cognition and learn information directly from their minds

Mental Manipulation
He has multiple ways of messing with your mind, such as possessing you to fight for him or putting you in an eternal mental prison, trapping you in an endless sleep
  Feats and Scaling

Divinity

 Overall

 Power

Speed

Maruki
WARNING:SMT SCALING WILL BE USED BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT IT'S CONSISTENT

Speed

Weaknesses

As powerful as Divinity is, he does have his fair share of weaknesses, with the main one being he will die permanently if the temporal zone was destroyed. Destroying the temporal zone would also destroy Divinity.
For Maruki, he doesn't really have any weaknesses in his stronger forms. However, his powers are tied to the Metaverse, so if it's destroyed, he will lose all his strength and abilities.

The Verdict

I'm going to break this down into 4 separate categories,

Starting off with Stats, looking solely at their calculable feats, you would assume that Maruki had the advantage

Only using those feats, Maruki would be approximately 298.1 decillion times stronger than Divinity, however these are both clearly low-balls of both characters.

Using their high ends

We can clearly see that Divinity is much more powerful by unfathomably infinitesimal transcendent amount. Since the gap between High Outer(Infinite Layers) and Boundless is unfathomable, their equal in speed but that hardly matters in this case

Stats go to Divinity
Moving on to Powers, it becomes pretty complex, because of the main question, can Almighty attacks nullify any of Divinity's reality warping? How Almighty attacks work is that they are able to bypass all forms of defense such as the reality warping omnipotent orb
Not even reality warping to undo the action to do an Almighty attack can nullify Almighty attacks, however this may not work on Divinity. Recall how Ecto-Energy in 5YL is described.
Ecto-Energy is stated to transcend any reality and break any rule, meaning that Ecto-Energy is so powerful that it could easily do the same things that Almighty attacks could, however, Divinity reality warping has been shown to affect beings made out of Ecto-Energy, such as Vlad and Danny
While doesn't exactly mean Divinity's immune to Almighty attacks, it does mean that Maruki's Almighty attacks wouldn't be able to fully counter Divinity's reality warping.
That meant that Maruki would have to rely on his other powers, and in that instance, Divinity still held a slight advantage, while both had a lot of the same powers such as existence erasure, reality warping, regeneration and mental manipulation, Divinity's bigger list of powers such as his Type 8 Immortality or his Meta Manipulation would make it so that Divinity could break Maruki into layers or come back from being erased from existence.  Granted Maruki's clairvoyance could make it so that he could figure out how Divinity's power work, but for now-
Powers goes to Divinity(though it is very close)
Moving on to their trump cards

You might not think from how I'm describing the matchup so far, but Maruki actually had multiple ways to beat Divinity, his best one being his mental manipulation, in the deadline ending of Persona 5, Maruki warps Joker's perception to put him in an eternal sleep, not dissimilar to how Divinity was defeated, getting endlessly stalemated for all Eternity, with Vlad endlessly trying to posses him.
Now there is the caviate that Divinity is still way more powerful that Maruki, however their is a way that Maruki could circumvent the Stat gap, which is absorbing the Nexus of Infinity, which was how Clone Vlad was able to become more powerful than Divinity
And given the fact that Maruki was able to fully absorb his treasure to evolve his Persona into Adam Kadmon
And was then able to fuse with his Persona to become just as powerful YHVH
Then I do think it is viable for Maruki to able to Fused Adam Kadmon with the Nexus of Infinity, additionally Maruki's clairvoyance and absorbing the Nexus could also inform him on how to permanently kill Divinity, since it was able to make it so that Ben could remember everytime he fought Divinity
However that's not to say Divinity had no win-cons either
For one, his perception could make it so that he could see where Maruki got his powers from, so he could just time travel to that point in time and just kill him immediately, or destroy Mementos the second he learns how Maruki's Persona works.
He could also spread his essence through the Mementos just like he did the Temporal Zone, which could grant him even better control of the Metaverse than Maruki.

With so much variations and factors I'm going to call this category a draw

Intelligence
Now this final category is easily the most important, as it decides who would be the most likely to use their Trump Cards.
Now Maruki is no slouch when it comes to intelligence, he was able to figure out the cognitive world he could change the cognition of Sumire with any powers, and he was very easily able to warp reality as soon as he got his full access to his Persona, as seen by the fact that Akechi was able to come back shortly after he awaken his Persona ,compared to Divinity though, he was simply outmatched.
Remember, as Stated by Kuro, the way Divinity warps reality is that he thinks at such an incomprehensible level that his thoughts alone can warp the fabric of Space and Time, this amount of intelligence means that Divinity would leagues above Maruki in terms of their brainpower. Add that with his ability to see beyond time and Divinity would be the more likely one to use his trump cards. Now this doesn't exactly mean Maruki can't win, running this fight 100 times over their may be some scenarios where Divinity's arrogance could screw him over, like the time he didn't put in a fail-safe in-case Vlad betrayed him, which he knew was a possibility. however that is just one scenario and we are look at any possibility, giving the final category to Divinity.

Conclusion

    Takuto Maruki

Advantages:

  • Mental Manipulation could work really well against Divinity
  • If Divinity brings Maruki to the Nexus then he could easily absorb it
  • Clairvoyance could make him aware of how to permanently kill Divinity
  • Destroying the temporal would instantly kill Divinity
  • Stronger at extremely low ends

Equal:

  • Speed

Disadvantages:

  • Way Weaker
  • Almighty Attacks don't work against Divinity
  • Less Likely to use trump cards
  • Slightly Worse Powers
  • Less Intelligent
  • Has no defense against time travel
  • Divinity could just destroy the metaverse, removing all of his powers
  • Less Experienced
  • Divinity could get around equal speed through teleporting and portals

Divinity

Advantages:

  • Way more powerful
  • Way more intelligent
  • Almighty attacks can't counter his reality warping
  • More Likely to use his trump cards
  • Slightly better hax
  • More Likely to figure where Maruki gets his powers
  • 4000 years more experienced
  • Could also get around equal speed through teleporting and portals

Equal:

  • Speed

Disadvantages:

  • Mental Manipulation could just make immobile
  • The Nexus would make Maruki much more powerful if were able to absorb it
  • Clairvoyance could make Maruki aware of how destroying temporal would instantly kill Divinity
  • Weaker at extreme low ends

While Maruki did have some good ways of putting Divinity down for good, more often than not, Divinity's greater Power, Abilities and Intelligence would lend him the win

The Winner is

 Divinity
